Catholic League President Slams Dan Savage as the Ultimate Bully

Catholic League President Bill Donohue is not having any of Dan Savage's apology.

On Friday, the gay rights activist delivered the keynote addresses at the National High School Journalism Conference in Seattle, saying - while making a general point about how Christians look past plenty of passages in the Bible, most notably those promoting slavery - that folks should “learn to ignore the bullshit in the Bible about gay people.”

In response, a handful of students walked out on the speech and Savage has faced criticism from a number of organizations.

Savage has since clarified certain remarks, specifically saying he regrets referring to the students who left his lecture as making a "pansy-ass move," acknowledging this is a form of bullying.

But is he sorry for the message he was trying to send? No.

“If believers can ignore what the Bible says about slavery, they can ignore what the Bible says about homosexuality," Savage has reiterated as the crux of his point.

But none of that is enough for Donohue. He has released a statement that castigates Savage for a "history of making... vile, disgusting and bigoted remarks" and says:

Ironically, Savage’s bullying of Christian students was done in the name of protesting the bullying of homosexuals. When it comes to bullying, Savage has no peer. We hope the Obama administration, which has welcomed him to the White House, takes note.

What do YOU think, THGers? Does Savage owe Christians more of an apology?

Koalas get some protection in parts of Australia

By Miguel Llanos, msnbc.com

The face of Australia on Monday got some needed protection in parts of the country. While nearly a plague in South Australia, the iconic koala was listed as "vulnerable" in Queensland and New South Wales due to crashing numbers, dwindling habitat and other threats.

"On a species as iconic as the koala, I really don't think I could have credibly said to the Australian people, 'Oh don't worry, you might not have any more in Queensland the way things are going, but you can go to South Australia if you want to see one'," Environment Minister Tony Burke told reporters of his decision.

"In Victoria and South Australia, koalas have actually been in such high numbers they've been eating themselves out of habitat," the Australian Broadcasting Corp. quoted him as saying. "There's what you call population control measures going on there ... like sterilization."

"But in places like NSW and Queensland," he added, "their numbers have been taking a massive hit" -- a 40 percent drop in Queensland and a decline of about a third in New South Wales over the last 20 years.

PhotoBlog: Threats to an iconic species

While not listed as "endangered" -- the most threatened status -- the vulnerable listing will still provide protections.

"If someone wants to make a development there is a tougher hurdle as a result of a species being endangered," Burke said.

Besides habitat loss and urban development, koalas face threats from vehicle strikes, dog attacks, and disease, Burke said.

The Australian Koala Foundation welcomed the listing, but argued that the population in Victoria is much less than the government estimates and should also be protected.

The foundation "is shocked and saddened that the koalas in Victoria have been left unprotected," Foundation Director Deborah Tabart said in a blog post. "It is disheartening to read that the minister has fallen for the old and sad myth that koalas in Victoria have 'eaten themselves out of house and home'."

Koalas are the cute fuzzy bears possibly most famous for being from Australia. Now, for the first time, the Dallas Zoo will be home to two - Kibo and Tekin.

Whereas the Australian government estimates there are 200,000 koalas across the country, the foundation believes the number is around 100,000.

Tabart told the Australian Broadcasting Corp. that she felt Victoria was left out due to industry pressure.

"Because I have been in my job for so long and I sat through the Senate inquiries last year, I know industry is afraid of a listing and I know they have lobbied very hard," she said. "The logging industry, the development industry and forestry all pleaded with the senators last year, please do not list."

Tevez keen to remain at Manchester City

Associated Press Sports

updated 8:51 a.m. ET April 30, 2012

MANCHESTER, England (AP) -After patching up his differences with Manchester City, a rejuvenated Carlos Tevez declared his intention Monday to remain at the club and repay the faith shown in him by owner Sheikh Mansour.

The Argentina striker recently returned to action for the Premier League title-chasers following a breakdown in relations with manager Roberto Mancini that was sparked by his refusal to warm up when a substitute during a Champions League match in September.

Tevez has demonstrated his importance to City by scoring four goals in his last three games to revive the team's title hopes and he doesn't see this season being his last at the Etihad Stadium.

"This club has been building something special for the last few years," Tevez told the Manchester Evening News ahead of Monday's derby with Manchester United that could determine the Premier League champion. "It was the project and the dream that made me come to City in the first place.

"I've been here since the start of that project and I share the same vision as Sheikh Mansour. He has always been brilliant with me and I want to repay his faith and stay here as long as it takes to make the project a success."

Despite a public apology for his insubordination, it was widely expected Tevez would still be leaving City at the end of the season, having failed to secure a move to AC Milan or Paris Saint-Germain in the January transfer window.

However, despite previous outbursts about his unhappiness at living in Manchester for personal reasons, the striker and his family appear ready to make another go of it in the northwest city, with City aiming to overtake United either this season or in the coming years.

"I am an ambitious person. I want to work hard and win things with City," said Tevez, who acknowledged in an interview with the club's website that he had "thrown away" the last six months of his career. "That's all that matters to me, as a player and a person."

Tevez is expected to start up front alongside compatriot Sergio Aguero for the match against former club United, with City needing a victory to return to the top of the standings on goal difference with two matches remaining.

City hasn't won the English title since 1968.

Representatives for Khloé Kardashian are denying a TMZ report that the reality TV star and her basketball player husband, Lamar Odom, are pulling the plug on their "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" spin-off "Khloé & Lamar" so Odom can focus solely on his sports career.

"The show has not been canceled," Khloé's rep told MTV News via e-mail, adding that further production will "depend on their schedules as Lamar's basketball is [the] priority right now."

The former Los Angeles Lakers forward was traded to the Dallas Mavericks late last year. After a difficult season, he was placed on the team's inactive list earlier this month. Odom reportedly clashed with Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and issued a statement to ESPN, saying, "I'm sorry that things didn't work out better for both of us, but I wish the Mavs' organization, my teammates and Dallas fans nothing but continued success in the defense of their championship."

There's still a chance the Mavericks will trade Odom to another team, though the team and Cuban have not publicly announced their decision at this time.

The pair will reportedly return full-time to Los Angeles, where Odom is said to have hired personal trainers to help get him back into peak playing form. They will also continue to appear on "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," as Khloé was included in the $40 million deal E! reached with the family to keep "Keeping Up" on the air for three more years.
